Bondi Beach-based street artist NOT NOT aka Cam Scott captured my imagination last year with ‘Digital Realities’, his thought provoking street art series designed to have us individually to consider the impact of the behaviours and addictions that the major platforms and mobile phone technology are creating, breeding and feeding in society and our everyday lives.

From our digital selves to clickbait compulsions, this is a fascinating exploration into the digital world and I loved having him on the show! We share our own individual techniques that we use for regular digital escape, Centre for Humane Technology’s approach to ‘“realigning technology with humanity’s best interests, the LIKE IRL project, his TEDx TED Talk, how Cam Scott came to create his Sunnys Eyewear brand, ‘In Praise of Idleness’ and NOT NOT’s 2 key pieces of advice that he’d give to someone who has a dream, but is afraid to take that first step.

Super inspiring and fascinating chats with a highly intelligent, genuine, thoughtful and personable individual. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!

Podcast Feature: 3 x Brain Tumours & My Journey.

The life lessons & learnings of 3 x brain tumours by Dan Wilkinson.

DOWNLOAD the PODCAST via iTunes – #209 Brain Tumour Cast plus Small Biz Tips – Solocast.

Imagine being 25 years of age, looking at yourself in the mirror, not looking any different, not feeling any different, but you’ve just found out that you have brain tumours and you’re not sure if you’re going to be alive in 6 months.

Podcast Feature: My journey of a life and lessons having lived through 3 brain tumour operations, going completely deaf on one side, facial paralysis and learning how to walk again.

As you may have gathered, this week’s show is not your standard Hot & Delicious podcast episode and yes happily, 3 brain tumour operations and 18 years later I am still alive and well. This is not a “poor me” podcast and anyone who knows me knows how positive I am. This is for many of my friends who have been asking me about the story after my latest check-up and I’ve created it also in the hope that I can provide individuals going through their own ordeal, and their families, with a little shared experience that they might be able to use to help them their own journeys.

Some of you long-time listeners will know that I recorded some similar subject matter in 2016, however I’m a different person these days, I realised that I don’t think that I ever published a blog article about it and these kind of stories, in my eyes at least, are timeless and best shared, lest my own journey can be of benefit to someone else. It would quite honestly make my day and year if it could.

And as a little bonus at the end of this week’s episode, I’ll also share a few thoughts on pursuing your dreams from my perspective, shifting from full-time corporate work to self-employed retainer clients, as well as the need for techniques if you are self-employed and work from home.

Let’s get into the show!

Boom! Bondi Bandits represent. Social enterprise at its best. Tuck into this Bondi Beach podcast with 2 of my favourite Bondi Beach residents and co-founders of Bondi Bandits, Amy Lynch and Annie Pryor, who are tackling global problems by launching their brand at a local level.

Bondi Bandits is a social enterprise created to provide solutions to the world’s plastic pollution. Amy and Annie have developed eco, recyclable and sustainable surfing apparel for the children’s surf industry, using discarded and recycled fishing nets.

Not only are they a startup business striving to make a positive environmental impact…. Bondi Bandits are champions and advocates for young women around the world, supporting Free to Shine, a charity fighting to put Cambodian girls in schools and out of brothels. With every swim bag, trucker hat or piece of kids swimwear that you purchase – you’re supporting them too. And they’re set to scale!

So many laughs and such a pleasure to hang out with and talk to. Get on board! Download the Bondi Bandits podcast and learn more on how Bondi Bandits are changing the world!

‘Becoming Colleen – Finding The Shoe That Fits’ podcast with Ian Thomson.

DOWNLOAD the PODCAST via iTunes – #206 Becoming Colleen – Finding The Shoe That Fits (Writer, Director & Producer Ian Thomson).

‘Becoming Colleen: Finding the Shoe that Fits’ is a documentary about an 85 year old transgender woman, transitioning from male to female in the coastal community of Coffs Harbour on the NSW mid-north coast. Having lived most of her life as Colin – a husband, father, policeman, film-projectionist and self-declared shoe fetishist, Colleen has had to negotiate her gender transition later in life.

More than a documentary about the transitioning of an elderly transgender woman: this is a story of Col and her wife Heather: two people whose love transcended their gender roles; a small community that comes together to support a woman in pursuit of her greatest dream; and how finding exactly the right pair of shoes can be a perfect fit.

On today’s show, my close friend Craig Mack and I interview writer, producer & director, Ian Thomson, who with the support of Queer Screen, Acon, STC and Documentary Australia Foundation, has pulled together this most beautiful and evocative journey that touches on so many important social issues of our time.

Not only does it shine a light on the world and life of a transgender lady growing up in rural Australia and the challenges that she faces along the way, this is story of inclusiveness, being true to yourself, spending time with and cherishing the elderly, evolving interpersonal relationships with friends, family and strangers, demonstrating the need for understanding, striving to learn from and showing empathy for people in the world around us, especially if they view the world a little bit differently to or approach life from a slightly different perspective to us.

It makes me proud to share this work of art and I hope you that enjoy this story as much as I do!

The ‘Becoming Colleen’ Sydney premiere on Sunday 24th February thanks to Queer Screen as part of the Mardi Gras Film Festival.

Entrepreneurship podcast: Choose Day x hotndelicious x Secret Men’s Business on Bondi Radio

DOWNLOAD the PODCAST via iTunes – #198 Choose Day x hotndelicious x Secret Men’s Business.

Have you ever desired a life of more financial freedom, pursuing a life work balance that you believe you can have and being the best person you could be for yourself and the people around you?

WICKED Entrepreneurship & Leadership Choose Day radio show recorded LIVE yesterday at The Bucketlist Bondi on Bondi Radio with my home-boys Stacy Henderson (POVAR) and Seth Lawrence (Secret Men’s Business) on Bondi Radio, whilst watching the blue green waves roll in at Bondi Beach. And I loved it so much that we decided to release it as a podcast!

The conversation flows and as always we go on a number of tangents:

  • Early in the show Stacy and I talk openly about how we’re both looking to re-position ourselves professionally, striving for more financial freedom in life, creating a career for yourself based on what you love, what you’re good at and what you want out of life.
  • Seth Lawrence speaks in depth about Men’s Mental Health and his current path of “helping a lot of men (and women) in our communities understand and feel their emotions, move through and release them rather than suppression” which in his belief leads to depression, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence, etc. His training has helped him to let go of a lot of negative thoughts, beliefs and patterns that no longer serve him and it has allowed Seth to establish a deeper connection with himself and others.
  • I face a few demons of my own on the Choose Day show and share with the boys the steps I took from having no confidence as a kid to being someone that I’m proud of and I love.
  • Spark Festival – ‘Social Media for Business – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly’.
  • We share a few top tips for anyone craving to pursue a new career that they’re passionate about.
  • Yoga, meditation and we of course wax lyrical about life in Bondi Beach.

Super chats and I hope that this radio show podcast puts a smile on your face and makes your heart soar as much as it does mine!

Young Henrys and Afends launch new HEMP IPA beer.

Young Henrys and Afends launch new HEMP IPA beer.

Last night Young Henrys and Afends tapped the 1st keg of their ground-breaking, brand new HEMP IPA at Young Henrys brewery HQ in Newtown.

A year and a half in the making (who knew hemp laws Down Under would be so strict! 😁) , this delicious little number is now one of my favourite new beers. Any concerns that I had of the hemp overpowering this India Pale Ale were immediately washed away as the golden nectar flowed down my throat. The Young Henrys x Afends HEMP IPA is big, bold and beautifully balanced with just enough hop and a delicious blend of citrus, tropical and stone fruits. We’ve got a new daddy now! 🍻🍁✨

I was also chatting with Young Henrys founders Oscar McMahon and Richard Adamson last night about how happy it made me to be back amongst the Young Henrys crew. It’s been while! If you’ve ever wanted to learn about building a culture for your business, then YH is a wonderful example. I’m definitely keen to record a podcast with Oscar about it sometime, as last night’s event just felt like family!

So if you’re after a new brew then look no further. Wrap your lips around this!

Nine Fingers Brew is one of Sydney’s exciting new Inner West craft beer breweries and cofounder & head brewer, Dave Anderson is a super inspiring guy!

A home-brew fanatic from a young age, after losing his finger in an circular saw accident on a construction work-site Dave was determined to take life by the horns, created his own construction business and after winning multiple awards for his home-brews, turned his hand to bring his brewery dreams to life!

Determined and centred, this wonderful chat with Dave Anderson illustrates that we can and should have multiple careers across this lifetime of ours, how we can be so much more than one dream and learning how to pivot when things don’t quite go the way we expected.
