In my time at SapientNitro, we’ve changed the way our clients play in the social media space with innovative thinking, exciting brand building and social media-led campaigns
Some of the highlights include:
- creating the Peroni Nastro Azzurro social media brand book, which struck such a powerful chord with the Peroni brand team, so much so that they asked us to present the brand book as an example to all their agency partners and paved the way for a complete transition of Peroni into a digital brand with a new digital ecosystem including the Peroni Stile Italiano lifestyle blog and Peroni Instagram channel.
- our award winning Philly Pourovers campaign where SapientNitro partnered with Instagram for the launch of Instagram Advertising in Australia, driving a measurable uplift in offline sales and a demonstrable ROI through social media for Philadelphia Cream Cheese.
- sparking a national flavour debate with the creation of the Cadbury #ChocPlusWhat campaign leading up to the launch of Cadbury Dairy Milk with Vegemite Chocolate, which resulted in the Cadbury and #ChocPlusWhat trending nationally on Facebook/Twitter in Australia, made global news and was turned into a Twitter Business case study.
I am both proud and excited to have helped transform the way not only our clients do business, but the way SapientNitro operates in the social media space.
When I first joined SapientNitro in July 2013, the Australian arm of the business had never focussed on social media clients before. During my time at the agency, with the support of our global social teams in Miami, New York, Chicago, Atlanta and Toronto, we transformed the Melbourne office into a digitally-focussed business, creating internal ways of working, crisis management & escalation procedures, content production and community management processes, reporting templates, social listening and analytics tool assessment/review, pitch document creation for successful pitches and more.
SapientNitro is now a thriving full-service agency providing clients with a range of specialist social media services including social media strategy, monthly calendar content creation – social media copywriting, photography and video production, monthly reporting and community management (moderation, crisis management and escalation).
But now, it’s my time… I want to take the learnings I brought to SapientNitro and have been adopted by our clients, as well as those key learnings they haven’t been able to adopt, to further build my own brand, Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet, and that of my clients, who crave a forward-thinking digital brand of their own. I want to partner with agencies, brands and clients to create audience-centric content that’s built for the user experience and drives the brand awareness/Reach that ultimately drive foot traffic/sales for their respective businesses.
And that now starts with you…
If you, your agency, your business, your brand or your client are looking to transform the way you approach social media then your journey starts now.

“People do business with people, not logos.” – Trevor Young (PRWarrior.com)

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Launching social media for your business or personal brand or wondering if it’s time to review and revamp?
Then these words by PR Warrior, author, podcaster, public speaker and digital entrepreneur, Trevor Young, should be the first place you start and THIS is the ‘Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet’ podcast for you!
One of my frustrations as a digital media professional and creative, is that those who aren’t digital/tech savvy and/or way too focused on their brand don’t realise that to sell product, a brand’s content offering should be audience centric first and foremost. This doesn’t mean reproducing uninspiring and unoriginal “inspiration quotes” on sunset or beach backgrounds or posting cat memes/dog videos that have zero relevance to your brand, it just means take the time to consider the user experience on mobile for someone scrolling past your content on social media for the very first time. If it looks like an advertisement, then it is an advertisement, their eyes will glaze over, anything you were hoping to achieve with that post is immediately lost and even damage your brand reputation!
Get creative and always have the user experience front-of-mind – how can you work your brand and product into content that won’t make someone scroll on by immediately or switch off – Hot tip: Don’t slap logos and Text Overlays over everything!
Today, Trevor and I talk at length about the effectiveness of an audience-centric marketing approach, his book, microDOMINATION which is about how to leverage social media and content marketing to build a mini-business empire around your personal brand – a look at new age entrepreneurs who have built global profiles using content and social media, Reputation Revolution by Trevor Young – the DIY Personal Branding for Business Professionals podcast created by Trevor, we talk tales of his childhood growing up around country Victoria as the son of a bank manager where Trevor’s imaginative and entrepreneurial spirit was born, JUNUFO – the Junior Investigation Team into UFOs (yes I’m serious 😉), choosing accountability partners – the like-minded individuals who will help you stay true to your commitment to pursue your personal and business ambitions, The Cluetrain Manifesto, Miles Davis ‘Kind of Blue’ album, the great Melbourne crime novel and the longevity you’ll achieve for your business and brand by staying true to yourself and marketing who you are, not what you think people want to see.
Don’t craft something that you’re not.

Podcast #47 – Dan Kelly’s Wanderlust, the Island of Hydra and ‘Leisure Panic’.

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Podcast #47 Dan Kelly (Wanderlust, the Island of Hydra and ‘Leisure Panic’).
Wanderlust. A strong desire to travel. One of the key qualities that so many of my inspired and inspiring podcast guests and I connect with and upon on a regular basis. The insatiable urge to explore, meet new people, learn about the world, the people in it and ourselves… to feel like we’re moving forward and constantly evolving… as individuals… as professionals, no matter what industry we work in… Just to feel alive!
And this is where Dan Kelly and I connected… A career musician who tours with the likes of Bic Runga, Paul Kelly, Augie March, Casey Chambers & more, today we delve into wonderful, ranging chats from Leonard Cohen, cliff swims and 10 day getaways on the Island of Hydra, Dan Kelly’s Polish grandparents and an English mum who settled in Australia at the price of a £10 note, Dan Kelly’s childhood and the contrasts of growing up between South Australia and the harsh realities of the Gold Coast in the 80s, the techniques we use individually dealing with the current age of overstimulation and the anxiety it brings, the meaning of ‘Leisure Panic’ and the stories to tell behind the music.
Softly spoken and thoughtful, Dan Kelly left me pondering how I roll across the years of this lifetime, the events that have shaped my outlook, tenacious approach and the people that guide my own moral compass.
This is a beauty… Enjoy!

Wicked banter, Australia, social issues and The Basics – ‘The Age Of Entitlement’

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Podcast #46 The Basics – ‘The Age Of Entitlement’ podcast.
Loose loose chats with the boys from The Basics…
Privileged enough to be invited into their descript 😉 discreet Melbourne rehearsal space, where Kris, Wally and Tim are prepping for their upcoming ‘The Age Of Entitlement’ album launch tour which starts this week in Melbourne – it was straight into the fire with my jet-lagged ass having to work my ass off to keep up with the easy, quick-fire banter that these lads are renown for in person and on stage.
Fuckin’ hilarious regardless and I held my own in patches as we cover everything from the boys favourite pasta recipes, to saving wild tortoises & echidnas, how we’re living in this country, The Age Of Entitlement, the choices we make and how so many of us are just not making enough individual effort to contribute by lending our voice to the social issues of the current age, Castlemaine Rock, The Basics time spent recording in Abbey Road Studios, traveling to Turkey and the wonderful Turkish people, the opulence of the USA, the earliest ever memory of Wally De Backer AKA Gotye with a solitary Billy Goat Gruff and being serenaded by a homeless person in downtown Los Angeles, Tim Heath’s Iced VoVos and independent French comedy-drama film ‘Samba’.
Wonderful contrasting chats and I thoroughly enjoyed spending an hour with the lads before they got back to jamming for this national Australian tour.
This album is about social issues… it’s not political record… “It’s just about love and wanting to be loved and caring for other people… and that’s it.”
Get out and buy it… And go see a show, bitches!
