I clearly remember the first time I saw Kimbra live as if it were yesterday… oh man, those pipes!
Wandering through Spiegeltent getting organized for another night of amazing entertainment at the centre-piece of Brisbane Festival, I stopped momentarily to check out Kimbra’s soundcheck. There were only 4 – 5 of us in the room, but from the second her voice soared above the band I was captivated… immediately!
Those precious few songs were even more special as it felt like our own little private show and at that moment I knew she was destined for great things. To this day I still get tingles. Seriously one of the best live female vocalists I’ve ever seen and man.. have you seen those dresses… H.O.T.!
The crew at Viceroyalty are exceedingly proud to present ‘90’s Music‘, the brand new single from Kimbra and first taste of her forthcoming second record.
Kimbra will be touring throughout Australia and New Zealand this May with Janelle Monae and guaranteed to be an amazing show!
Do yourself a favour.. get on it!

Music set me free..
Sometime back in June I rocked up at The Toff In Town on a school night to check out Ella Hooper’s new tunes, only to be blown away by not one, but two acts I’d never experienced live. Texture Like Sun and Melbourne singer/songwriter, Ariela Jacobs.
Ever since that night, Ariela’s ‘False Alarms’ has been on regular rotation in my world and her latest installment ‘The Sound’ captures the beautiful, lilting vocals reminiscent of one of my favourite Aussie indie performers over the past year or so, Thelma Plum.
Ariela Jacobs’ music floats me away in days when my life is getting crazier & crazier. Things couldn’t be better, but sometimes I need that escape to the quiet from my busy mind.
So beautiful & already I am captivated.

Over the past year I’ve seen Alison in Wonderland perform all over the shop incl. Splendour in the Grass and a bangin’ double-header DJ set with Anna Lunoe to close out The Aussie BBQ – SXSW in March, so pretty excited to get a taste of her killer new debut release ‘Get Ready’ feat. Fishing.
Enjoy & while you’re at it, check out the pics of her sick SXSW super set at Maggie Mae’s in Austin, Texas.
Hittin’ the world stage! Playa!
“I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I’m a white guy who sings soul music” – Sun Rai (Rai Thistlethwayte).
Where’s Rai been of late? LA.. that’s where baby! Yep, that’s right.. under the moniker of Sun Rai, Thirsty Merc frontman Rai Thistlethwayte is now living in California and embarking on the next stage of his career.
Blossoming from the cocoon like the butterfly of re-invention Sun Rai’s first foray into the international market is ‘Pocket Music’. This collaboration with Aaron Sterling (Regina Spektor, John Mayer) sees Rai return to the piano (his first love) and a handful of beautiful, uplifting pop/soul jams which he is currently showcasing around America on a national USA tour.
With the release of launch single ‘San Francisco Street’ I fell in love with Sun Rai’s latest sound and I for one am looking forward to jetting back to California to see him perform live in L.A.
“I’d love for people to be able to take this with them and want to hear it over and over again,” Rai concludes. “And, if it happens to help someone on their journey in life, that would be truly amazing.”
Yes sir.. this EP made my week & I’m excited to share it with all of you..

I can still remember when I first heard Emma Louise sing for the 1st time.
In 2011, Emma played Brisbane Festival‘s iconic Spiegeltent and those of us involved with Spiegeltent had her breakout single ‘Jungle’ ingrained in our hearts & minds and on repeat as part of our daily playlist.
Since joining Andy Bull for a double headline at that event, Emma Louise has gone from strength to strength with appearances at the world’s largest music, film & interactive conference, South-By-South-West (SXSW), New York’s CMJ Music Marathon at The Aussie BBQ and signing with US label Frenchkiss Records.
This week Brisbane-based music company, Mucho Bravado, announced March 22nd as the launch date for Emma’s much anticipated debut album ‘vs Head vs Heart’, including latest single ‘Freedom’ (Free stream via Soundcloud below).
Been a fan of Emma Louise for a few years now and get excited any time I hear news of her new music coming our way. Will definitely be heading over to iTunes to buy this one.
Damn! Fat Freddy’s new jam is tight!!
The New Zealand band’s latest installment from upcoming album ‘Blackbird’ due in 2013 is one fine piece of music. Sex & stylin’ blues, dub & dance.
Yes please! May I have another?
