Hermosa Beach, Nashville hot chicken and Cold Burger Cold Fries… the LA podcast with Henry Wagons.

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Interview #51 Henry Wagons (Cold Burger, Cold Fries).
Hermosa Beach, Nashville hot chicken and Cold Burger, Cold Fries… the LA podcast with Henry Wagons.
Touchdown in LA & straight down to Hermosa Beach where I’m staying for my 1st night stateside to chill, drink a few cheeky American craft beers, smash some SoCal Mexican eats & catch-up with Nashville-bound, Australian singer/songwriter, Henry Wagons.
Now Henry and I first met at SXSW in 2013 at Marieke Hardy’s Women of Letters event in Austin, Texas, and from the very first time we spoke, it was clear that Henry was a man of substance, thoughtful and generous with his time.
Through the haze of 13 hour flights from the southern hemisphere and over several delicious IPAs, we talk at length about Henry Wagons’ experience of recording his first full-length debut solo album in the wonderful city of Nashville, Tennessee, a former pop country culture, that has evolved into a music mecca for the likes of The Black Keys, Jack White, folk music and a thriving punk scene, the inspiration of Nick Cave’s professionalism and writing music for a living, Henry’s radio show, The Tower of Song on Double J and the impact it’s made on his music, anthropology and philosophy of language, the evocative writing of Cormac McCarthy, Henry’s advise for emerging, aspiring and hungry creatives, Nashville hot chicken, Bushwhacker cocktails and moments of adventure and elation that leave their mark.
Super, super, SUPER engaging chats with a philosopher gentleman who’s one of the most hilarious and engaging performers I’ve seen in quite some time. Anywhere.
I’m also excited to announce that Henry Wagons has just dropped his new single ‘Cold Burger, Cold Fries’ and you can listen to it for the first time in full right here at the end of the podcast. So exciting!
Let’s get amongst it!

The new full-length debut solo album will be out on February 16th, 2016, Henry Wagons will be touring Australia and USA in April/May and ‘Cold Burger, Cold Fries’ is out now via iTunes! So get on over & buy it!
In Henry’s words:
In the hazy world of the morning after, nothing makes sense, but everything is all too clear. You laugh, you cry and eat whatever is left. Cold burger, cold fries…its all I deserve

If it’s not fun then you’re missing the point – Aussie comedian Tom Ballard.
Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Interview #32 – Tom Ballard (Aussie comedian, podcaster & writer).
“It’s just supposed to be fun. If it’s not fun then you’re missing the point…”
– Australian comedian Tom Ballard
I’m sitting here on my bean-bag in my castle in the sky after interviewing Australian comedian, writer, TV show creator and podcaster, Tom Ballard and I’ve got a little bit of a buzz on. No, I’m not drunk or high, I actually didn’t pull out a beer until 3/4 of the way through this podcast and it was good to interview without beers for a change… I’m just sitting here soaking up the afterglow that I get every time that I record this podcast. I love the intimacy and learnings of a one-on-one with interesting, inspiring people who are working their absolute backsides off to do what they love! Happiness!
Anyway in today’s podcast chat, Tom and I cover a range of topics including his upcoming international comedy tour to Montreal, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and London where Tom’s performing his one-man show, Taxis & Rainbows & Hatred, which is a “a blistering hour of stand-up about love, sex loneliness and finding the courage to be one’s self,”, the recent Dawn Fraser vs Nick Kyrgios saga and the casual racism that’s still so prevalent in Australian society, the decision to leave a highly successful role at triple j radio career to continue pursuing a full-time career in stand-up comedy, reminiscing back to 2011 when we met and involved in the launch event of triple j unearthed radio station, inspirational figures in his life and so much more.
Super super chats and since the recording I’ve been loving catching up on episodes of Tom’s own podcast ‘Like I’m A Six-Year-Old’ where Tom sits down with fascinating individuals like Arj Barker, Dan Ilic and Waleed Aly to talk about politics, the way society works and just learn about people. ‘Cause that’s how we work out who we are right?
At a time in my life where I’m loving my career and the projects I work on outside of my 9-5, in the back of my mind is the ever present yardstick that I hold myself to “Am I at where I want to be? What would I do with my life right now if I could do anything?”… Tom’s outlook on life and thoughts from the podcast couldn’t have rung more true to me. Amongst others they are this..
“When you’re starting out you’re kind of obsessed by breaking, your big break and the thing that’s going to make a name for yourself. Life is long and career’s are long.. you are not any one gig, you are not any one TV show. You are not any one job or any one project in one job… the long term view is a very healthy thing to have, then the deciding factor is your commitment to the thing you want to do and how hard want to work at it to make it happen.”
“Opportunity cost is a fact of life. (as a result of leaving triple j) I went on to tour a lot more and do a TV show and now I’m about to go overseas which I couldn’t be doing if I was on radio.”
Words from the guru. Chasing the dream, living the dream. Let’s get into it!

Bikini Model Businesswoman, Allira Cohrs – recorded live at SkyPoint.

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet podcast series
Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet is a weekly podcast interviewing inspiring individuals and successful entrepreneurs from around the planet across a range of industries (incl. music, film/tv, fashion, travel, comedy and more) about what makes them tick as people and drives their hunger for success.
Today’s podcast is with model, fitness ambassador & presenter, Allira Cohrs.
I came across Allira’s work as a beautiful, sexy & captivating model through Instagram and we connected through Twitter where I swiftly discovered that she was so much more than a pretty face and amazing body, but in fact an extremely hard-working, lovely, inspiring and highly motivated individual. We became buddies a few years back and when I was road-tripping up the east coast of Australia last week, I decided I wanted to finally catch-up for a chat and dropped her a line.
I’m pretty excited to share this chat and the photos on the blog page as we recorded this podcast at Skypoint Observation Deck on the Gold Coast in Australia. We were located on the 78th floor of Queensland’s iconic Q1 building, which is one of the tallest residential buildings in the world and has spectacular 360 degree views of the Australian coastline, surf, hinterland and more. Make sure you check out the pics on the blog & thank you so much to the venue manager Guy and all the people at SkyPoint that made this happen. It seriously blew my mind to be recording in such an amazing location and it’s given me inspiration for future podcasts and another wicked little idea that’s been brewing for a while now… (but I’ll have to keep that under wraps for now).
I’m still tingling a little as when we were trying to decide where to record the podcast, I was like… well I don’t want to record at Allira’s house ‘cause that’s a little forward as we hadn’t met in person yet and I didn’t want to record at my mate’s house I was staying at, so I got thinking… maybe we can do it at a cafe near the beach… that’d be nice… and then no… hang on buddy… if you could record it anywhere at all on the Gold Coast, where would it be… bingo… light bulb goes off in my head. SkyPoint… and then I remembered I actually have a friend connected with SkyPoint Observation Deck and so I gave them a call… a few hours later it was all sorted… man, it blew my mind and it’s actually the perfect example of what I’m trying to get across with these podcasts.
If you set your mind to something, you can achieve almost anything. And if you want to do something, sometimes all you have to do is pick up the phone and ask.. or find out who that person is that you need to talk to and drop them an email. Not everyone you ask will say yes, but keep knocking on that door and eventually someone will say yes. We also all need to remember too that a no now’s not a no later… I can’t tell you the amount of no’s I’ve had and then weeks/months/years later the person I’ve approached has come across my work or my profile through a shared contact and all of a sudden I’m working on a wicked project.. That’s how it works. Not magic. Not luck, just a tenacious, hunger and determination. Just do it.
Anyway, in this podcast Allira and I chat about her travels to war zones working with the Australian Defence Force, performing in Afghanistan hitting the deck while rockets are going off around you, BlackHawk helicopter pilot antics, religion, the truth about how much hard work actually goes into being a model and being your own brand, how to go about choosing your role models and much much more.
Such a sick chat and we could have talked for hours… sign of a good podcast!!!! And how’s this view!!!!

Dave Anthony – ‘Hot Head’, his struggles with anger & rising like a phoenix from the ashes.

Today’s podcast is with American stand-up comedian, Dave Anthony.. For those of you not across his work, Dave is a writer and actor on Mark Maron’s TV show ‘Maron’, founder of LA Podfest, ‘The Dollop’ podcaster with Gary Reynolds (sorry Gareth :p) and is currently performing his one man show at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, ‘Hot Head’.
This interview was an exciting and rewarding one for me. Listeners to this podcast may not realise, but Dave Anthony and Greg Behrendt’s now defunct podcast ‘Walking The Room’ along with Wil Anderson and Charlie Clausen’s TOFOP podcast, were the catalyst and inspiration for my foray into podcast world for Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet.
Across the course of the 200+ episodes of the Walking The Room podcast I went through a very similar transitional journey in my life to Greg and Dave in that I was doing the hard yards to re-build a career that I both loved and struggled with at times. As they battled, grew and took their lives and careers to a new and positive level in parallel with my own life, so it was quite lovely to spend this hour or so with Dave.
We talk about his one man show ‘Hot Head’ and the empowerment of facing your own behavioural flaws and dealing with personal issues to become someone you love and that people want to be around, the difference between the American stand-up comedy scene and the rest of the Western world, creativity and how we both found our way back the paths we were always on and a Dave Anthony’s career spanning 20 years in comedy, writing and acting in both New York and LA.
Anyway, let’s get into it!

Matt Okine – chasing your dreams, life at triple j & infidelity.

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet weekly podcast series
Last weekend I was blessed enough to have triple j presenter and comedian Matt Okine drop by my castle in the sky.
This podcast is a bit of a shorter one today as Matt had to duck off early for his Melbourne International Comedy Festival show, which is called ‘The Other Guy’. I haven’t had a chance to see the show just yet because as we speak I’m currently roadtrippin’ up the east coast of Australia from Melbourne to Gold Coast & Byron, but ‘The Other Guy’ is a tale of infidelity and subsequent break down of Matt’s 9-year relationship. Despite raw subject matter and that this is a love story with a sad ending, I have no doubt from how easily we slipped into casual, flowing conversation during this 40-odd minute podcast chat, that his live show will be hilarious and thoroughly engaging throughout. I can’t wait to see it when I’m back!
Thanks for coming along Matt. Was an awesome chat!
Get into it peeps!
