Ambition is greater than fear. Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! with Poe (CEO and co-founder of Habu Health)
Ever had a vision and then brought your dreams into reality?
Christopher Poe AKA Poe is the CEO and co-founder of Habu Health, a Portland (Oregon, USA) based research group committed to building consumer confidence through scientific rigour.
Led by 12 years of research into the neurobiology of pain, and the pain-relieving properties of opioids and cannabis by leading industry pharmacologist and neural scientist, Dr Adie Poe (Poe’s co-founder and wife), Habu Health is a startup created to work with legislators and partners to build digital products that will fuel an intelligent database which integrates high-fidelity plant and human data.
We cover the legalities of recreational use and need for medicinal marijuana globally, the $2M dollars that Dr Adie Poe has already received in US government federal funding, the meaning behind the name of the business (Japanese for “herb”), what motivated Poe and Dr Adie Poe to take the leap of faith to pursue this dream and the launch of the Habu Health App in just 2 weeks!
Fascinating and educating insights into this data-fuelled startup and I have no doubt that you’ll enjoy this entrepreneur podcast as much as I do!
‘Cause legalising cannabis can change the lives and how we manage chronic pain in our global community. This shit is SO much more than Puff Puff Pass!

Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! with Matthew Vroom (tech entrepreneur, CEO & founder of Henge Docks)
Boom boom boom…
Is your life is designed around pursuing your passions tenaciously? Creating a life by following gut instinct and pushing yourself beyond your comfort to try things you think that you might love, through an ethos of #ChooseYourOwnAdventure?
If it’s not right now, you have a fire burning in you and you’re made like me, then it should be! And that’s that this week’s show is all about! This week, Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! with San Francisco-based, tech entrepreneur, co-founder and CEO of Henge Docks, Matthew Vroom.
Launched in April 2010, Henge Docks sold 3 months worth of inventory within the first 3 days of the launching, grew from a single product line to become the leading supplier of docking stations for MacBooks after only 8 months on the market and in 2017 enjoy one of the few direct hardware partnerships with the Apple brand globally.
Fascinating show as we chat about Matthew Vroom’s latest invention, the 6 months spent living out of his Nissan sports car after completing business school in Texas, driving around the USA hot-spotting to work remotely on Henge Docks before finally settling into San Francisco, becoming semi-famous for the creation of a satirical cartoon called “I hate Pam” whilst in college, the logistics of working with manufacturers in foreign countries at a time when the tech that Henge Docks were creating hadn’t been envisioned yet and so much more.
First and foremost, Matt Vroom is a husband, he’s a dad and he’s an ambitious, creative and strategic businessman. He is also the cousin of Illinois-based soya bean and corn farmer Nathan Webster AKA @nlwebs, my partner-in-crime on the @craftbeerlovin’ Instagram account, Matt Vroom is an inspiration and I am proud to call him my friend.
“Don’t defer your life’s goals.” Make a start, make a start today. After all… we’re both just normal guys who took the leap of faith in pursuit of happiness…
How many of you can say that you put everything on the line for an idea that you believe in? And managed to make it work! This is that story.

I have been keenly watching the evolution of Instagram Stories in recent times and in the latest Instagram platform update, brands who use relevant Locations + Hashtags within their content (on photos/video) can expect increased Reach and Brand Awareness of their Instagram Stories.
The inclusion of Locations & #hashtags, as shown in the screenshots below from our @hotndelicious Instagram account content, created whilst watching the Golden State Warriors versus the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, lead to a higher volume views of my @hotndelicious Instagram Stories by people searching #GSW and #NBAFinals content.
By adding Locations & #hashtags to Instagram videos, you can tap into increased traffic beyond your existing audience as ‘Grammers from around the world seek to connect with content from Locations or #hashtags associated with current events, digital activations and/or their favourite sports team.
So when you are choosing a social media strategist for your digital ecosystems for ongoing or campaign content, you need to take into consideration how quickly platforms evolve and how in touch your social media lead is with said social platforms.
One of the advantages I have as a highly experienced Social Media Strategist is that I am not only working with a diverse number of clients across multiple platforms and range of different industries including B2B, Health Insurance, FMCG, Not-For-Profit, beer/alcohol brands, financial/technology, travel and much more, but I also have my own two brands, Hot & Delicious Rocks The Planet! and Craft Beer Lovin’, where I am still on the tools every week creating still photography, video and audio content (for my Bondi Beach Radio show and podcast).
This means that unlike a lot of other strategists, I am one of the first to discover these latest social media platform changes before they are officially announced by the platforms and I’ll usually trial new products/content execution types on my own two brands first prior to putting them on the table for clients.
So to wrap this quick update, I’ll give you business advice and food for thought: There are a lot of wanna-be so-called social media specialists in this business and they usually brand themselves with self-coined terms like Social Media Guru/Ninja/Unicorn. If you are looking for a new Social Media Strategist for your brand or business, then make sure that you’re working with someone who not only understands how to ladder social media content up to meet your Business & Brand Objectives, but just as importantly has their finger on the pulse as a prolific content creator in their own right.
And if you want to work with me, then don’t be shy… I’ll get straight back to you. Drop me a line. 😃📱🎙✌🏻

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co owner & founder, Ken Grossman, joins Hot & Delicious Rocks The Planet! | Innovation, Advanced Energy Tech, Sustainability & Business Leadership.
DOWNLOAD the PODCAST on iTunes – #167 Ken Grossman (Sierra Nevada Brewing Co owner & founder) – Original Recast from 2017.
From little things, big things grow…
Inspiring founder & owner of Northern Californian brewery Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, Ken Grossman, is a man of passion, determination and innovation.
From humble roots, as a small West Coast craft brewery with a goal to produce 2,000 hectolitres of beer a year, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co is now a bi-coastal North American business that champions innovation, advanced energy technology & sustainability, business leadership and is now brewing 1.7 million hectolitres of beer a year from their West Coast and East Coast breweries.
After learning to brew from the father of a close friend at a young age, Ken Grossman opened a homebrew supply store in downtown Chico, called The Home Brew Shop in 1976, before selling it in 1978, founding Sierra Nevada Brewing Co in 1979 and releasing their first batch of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co beer in 1980, which was an American Stout.
At the time, there was no such thing as small-scale or “micro” brewery equipment in the USA and it was way too expensive to import from countries like Germany, so everything required for the brewery had to be repurposed or custom built, with Grossman travelling all over California and Oregon in search of stainless still tanks/equipment and teaching himself refrigeration and welding, so that he could fashion the majority of the new brewery out of recycled dairy equipment.
In today’s inspiring chat, brought to you by @craftbeerlovin’ on Instagram and the team at Phoenix Beers, we explore vast-ranging topics including Ken Grossman as an individual, the explosion and evolution of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, his love of hiking, sailing, fishing and diving and how Sierra Nevada got its name (it’s not as 100% obvious as you think), Sierra Nevada’s partnership with monks in a small Northern California town – brewing a series of Ovila Abbey ales inspired by Belgian Trappist monks that helped raise millions of dollars for the monastery, the brewery’s approach to innovation including the installation of an array over 10,000 solar panels and fuel cells to reduce their environmental impact in 2007 to 2017, where the transition to gas turbines and introduction of Tesla Powerpack batteries now means that Sierra Nevada produce 80-90% of their own electricity onsite!
We chat about Ken’s first trip down to Australia for Good Beer Week 2017, the creation of Sierra Nevada’s Tropical Torpedo IPA, the introduction of their 2nd brewery on the east coast in the mountains of North Carolina to reduce shipping impact and the greenfield site, which enabled Sierra Nevada to minimise the impact in its construction and design, the process that the 5-10 new small batch Sierra Nevada beers brewed every single week have to go through to become part of the core range of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co beers and a teaser of the latest beers that are soon to be joining the Sierra Nevada family including goses, sours & more!
A wonderful journey and inspirational tale of a man who has pursued his passions tenaciously and evolution from one of the smallest of businesses in the mountains of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Ranges to one of the largest, most successful craft beer breweries in America!
Let’s get into it!

Billy Fox returns!
Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! repeat offender and Sydney indie soul, R&B & hip hop artist & producer, Billy Fox, joined me live in the studio last week to launch his brand new single ‘Shapes’.
We first met when I was music supervisor for Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! back in 2010. Flash forward 7 years and Billy Fox- ‘Shapes’ is getting serious spins around the globe, plus he has just announced a series of exclusive Australian east coast tour dates including Oxford Art Factory – Gallery Bar (Sydney), Rare Finds - Black Bear Lodge (Brisbane), Moonshine Bar at Manly Food & Wine Festival and Penny Black (Melbourne).
I draw inspiration from my one-on-ones with Billy Fox every… single… time! (both on and off mic). Today we delve deeper into the meaning behind ‘Shapes’, a track created to reawaken the lost art of conversation, it highlights a culture that we’ve created for ourselves, where we force our individual opinions down each others’ throats and attack the person rather than entering into measured debates… there is a serious need for all of us to adopt an approach where we take a moment for introspection and to search within, before knee-jerk reaction opinions and seeking to change others’ to ours without consideration for where they’re coming from.
Aside from the D&Ms, we get serious about our music experiences with Billy Fox and I spitballing the iconic music of Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’, being given Rage Against The Machine’s self-titled album for the very first time, the experience of producing tunes for Australian filmmaker and musician Macario De Souza AKA Kid Mac, making a positive impact on the lives of others and SO much more!
We all grow from adversity and something that I champion in my own life is the way Billy Fox lives his. In music, like life, “there is so much to get distracted by… especially when you’re creating, especially with music”, so music like every other facet of our lives at this time “it’s all about streamlining, simplifying”… and Billy Fox indeed is living up to this through his personal Mission Statement and stepping back from the stresses of over-stimulation and white noise, by keeping things simple… “If it feels good, then do it”.
Let’s get into it!

Welcome to our exclusive Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet show with RUOK? Campaign Director Katherine Newton.
Men account for 75% of all suicides in Australia and RUOK is a suicide prevention charity in Australia created to drive meaningful conversations with mates and loved ones to save lives.
On our 2nd consecutive university lecture at Macleay College in Sydney, we chat extensively with Katherine about this Australian suicide prevention charity including:
- The evolution from RUOK? Day from a campaign into a 365 day-a-year suicide prevention charity.
- The approach and 4 Simple Steps you should take that could save someone’s life.
- RUOK’s ongoing partnerships and their staff buy-in with the likes of Hungry Jacks, Virgin Mobile, the Australian Government Department of Heath, Commonwealth Bank, NAB, Country Rugby League.
- Key steps everyday Australians can take to generate conversation and help raise awareness in their own physical and digital communities.
- Techniques & Meditation Apps that you can use to manage your own mental health.
- What to do if somebody says they’re not okay?
- The psychology behind Choosing A Call to Action – make it simple and get people participating.
- RUOK education and mental health projects with:
- Australian children in primary schools and high schools.
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) sufferers – Ambulance, Paramedics, Police.
- RUOK? Day 2017 – Thursday 14th September.
For me, as an individual who has experienced the death of one of my best mate’s brother by suicide and my own family member who has experienced their own mental health issues, this show cuts deep and it’s was just wonderful to spend time one-on-one with a senior representative of an organisation like RUOK, who are making a daily positive impact on the lives of thousands of Australians.
Fascinating and insightful chats. Let’s get into it!
