Wow, what an experience!
I am still coming down from the excitement that has been Telstra Vantage™ 2018 and yet I’m hitting the ground running on the hunt for my next contract/freelance project or full-time Head of Social Media/Social Media Director/Social Media Strategist role, preferably in Sydney or US-based, but do have clients in other Australian capital cities.
Across the past 3.5 months, I have been Digital & Social Media Lead for Telstra Enterprise on Telstra Vantage™, the annual invite-only event 6,000+ customers on smart business tech and innovation held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. And what an experience it was!
Apart from the successful launch of the Telstra Vantage™ TV livestream/on demand service and watching our amazing onsite Enterprise Social Media team bring Telstra Vantage™ to life in digital, key event highlights from the 5 stages at event include the closing keynote from Thai cave rescue heroes, Dr Richard Harris and Craig Challen, as they related to our audience their experiences of the Tham Luang Cave rescue – dubbed “Mission Impossible” – in Thailand earlier this year, Neha Narula’s keynote on blockchain, bitcoin and cryptocurrency, the Business of Sport panel featuring Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany and AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan on how technology is influencing how we promote, broadcast, sponsor and watch sport now and in the future, the Women in Tech “Unstoppable force meets irresistible objective – empowering women in technology” panel and a plethora of the latest Telstra tech including 5G demonstrations, the evolution of drones and any number of partner activations from the likes of Cisco, Samsung, Microsoft and more.
As my role wraps up on the Telstra Vantage™ project for 2018, I’m excited about my next steps in the industry in Australia/abroad and effective immediately I am on the hunt for either a client-side or an agency-side role/contract and the 3 key elements that I’m seeking in new business opportunities are as follows:
- Digitally Progressive – you are a digitally progressive business/brand or you want to be (if you’re not there yet then, you want to pay someone who is and can bring you up to speed).
- Corporate Culture/Champion of the People – you foster a culture of inclusiveness from the top down and that is evident in the energy/experience of the people who work with you at all levels.
- Champion Great Work – contractors and employees describe your business approach as one that fosters big ideas and proactivity. Industry leaders not followers.
I am a global award-winning social media strategist, university lecturer, speaker, podcaster and content producer with experience across B2B, Fintech, FMCG, Travel, Beer/Alcohol brands, Not-For-Profit, Augmented Reality, Tech/Apps, Health & Wellness, Cosmetics, Health Insurance & more.
I drive strategy for medium to large size enterprises, both agency and client-side.
Over the past 2.5 years, my biz Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! has worked with Cancer Council Australia, Moula fintech, The Bravery, Dos Equis (via FWRD Agency), Cherry Blooms global cosmetics brand, Mahlab Agency (a global B2B digital client, hbf insurance), REBORN Agency and Transplant Australia providing a range of services including a full audit of organisational digital ecosystems and assets, development of 2-3 year strategic roadmaps, Best Practice Social Media Playbooks, development of Digital Media Reporting frameworks, Business-As-Usual/Campaign ideation, organizational training workshops, Issues & Crisis Management Escalation procedures/management, development of brand influencer networks and setting up of agency/client internal/external ways of working systems.
In a previous life as Social Media Lead at SapientNitro and Head of Social Media at Soap Creative across the Mondelez, Carlton & United Breweries, Microsoft, PepsiCo (snacking) and Ferrero portfolios, I have worked on social media strategy for a range of international brands including Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate, Philadelphia Cream Cheese, Peroni Italian Beer, Miller Genuine Draft, Bulmers Original Cider, Doritos, Tic Tac, Kinder Surprise, Nutella, Xbox and many more.

Cassie Lane is one of the most hilarious, intelligent and beautiful people I know and like so many of us, Cassie Lane grew up desperately wanting to be someone else.
At 16 years of age, Cassie jetted off overseas from Australia on an exciting student exchange adventure. One day she was walking the streets of Italy and the next she found herself swept up into the life of a jet-setter, strutting the catwalks of Milan, Italy and the world as an international model.
Next stop USA. Life living in Los Angeles was like something out of a TV show – sharing a house with 3 other models, mixing it with celebrities on a global scale and partying hard in the LA scene. And yet something was missing…
Beneath all the flash and fancy, she started seeing through the world of exploitation and self-destruction where “living off your looks can attract as much scorn as admiration.”
Yearning for something more, Cassie returned to Australia determined to pursue her passions and whilst taking her next steps in self-development through study, she also began dating Australian footballer, Alan Didak (Collingwood football Club), who wasn’t that well known at the time. As his sporting profile grew in Australia, Cassie found herself thrust back into the limelight and the oft noxious environment of a WAG (Wives And Girlfriends of high-profile professional athlete), where at times she found herself labelled as ‘slut’, ‘skank’ and ‘stripper’, and constantly being told that she should toe the line and be happy with her life as the partner of a football star. And then came the toxic cherry top… being voted worst dressed at the Brownlow Medal whilst attending the nationally televised AFL Best & Fairest Awards show with her partner. Devastating…
Especially for a highly intelligent person that now not only has a double degree in Psychology and Communications, but now a Masters of Creative Writing at the University of Melbourne, from which the thesis of that Masters is this very book and memoir.
‘How to Dress a Dummy’ is frank, open, honest, hilarious and beautiful journey of empowerment and self discovery… I myself was clearly never a catwalk model, but there are so many parallels between Cassie’s life and my own. I grew up knowing that I was different, an outsider and I always felt like a bit of a weirdo. And I still am a weirdo, it’s just that I’m my kind of weirdo and the most beautiful thing that you can discover is to learn to love yourself and to be yourself, for once you do you will notice that you attract the friends/people who most want to be around you, to be with you and to be like you… And that is one of the most amazing moments of realization that anyone can experience!
It makes me so happy to see my friends strive for success, achieve their goals and focus on what completes them and makes them happy. I love that I can share this story.
