Someone pinch me, I’m dreaming! ✨ What’s that you say? Members of Rage Against The Machine + Public Enemy + Cypress Hill all in one epic band live at Whisky A Go Go?!! I’m in!
For the past 2 weeks, since Rage Against The Machine announced a new teaser website – ProphetsOfRage.com, complete with countdown clock and #TakeThePowerBack hashtag, there’s been a fire of excitement brewing on social media about a possible supergroup and yes, on Tuesday morning in Los Angeles, members of the 3 bands announced on KROQ, that the Prophets Of Rage supergroup would hit the stage last night at Los Angeles’ iconic Sunset Strip venue, Whisky A Go Go for their first ever show! And what a set it was!
It was such an amazing and surreal experience to be one of just 250-300 people witnessing history take place with Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk (RATM), Chuck D, DJ Lord (Public Enemy) and B-Real (Cypress Hill) ripping out a set rich with so many of Rage Against The Machine‘s killer hits including Guerilla Radio, Bombtrack, Take The Power Back, Know Your Enemy, 2 brand new ‘Prophets of Rage’ jams, a Public Enemy/Cypress Hill medley with classics such as Can’t Truss It, Insane in the Membrane, Bring the Noise, I Ain’t Going Out Like That & so much more!
I could barely contain my excitement when I snagged one of the few wristbands available for the show at The Whisky yesterday. Honestly with Morello’s kick-ass, machine-gun guitar licks and Timmy C and Brad Wilk as tight as ever, I literally closed my eyes a number of times during the set and the music just floated me away… tingles on my skin, my heart soaring… So tight!
And while as a hardcore fan of Rage Against The Machine since the 90s, I missed Zack De La Rocha rockin’ the mic, Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord were killin’ it, it was one hell of a show to pop my cherry at The Whisky A Go Go and I just felt blessed to be one of the precious few present.
“We can no longer stand on the sidelines of history. Dangerous times demand dangerous songs. It’s time to take the power back.” – Prophets Of Rage.
Lights Out! Guerilla Radio. Turn That Shit Up!

Authors note: Unfortunately the show had a strict zero mobile phone policy and it was too short notice to get myself a AAA pass to shoot the gig, hence the lack of live photos.
