Podcast #48 Dilruk Jayasinha (stand-up comic and actor) podcast.

“Stay true to yourself and anything’s possible.” – Dilruk Jayasinha

It makes me so fuckin’ happy and excited to see someone so passionate and hard working in what they do. This is why I created this podcast – to surround myself with like-minded, interesting and ambitious individuals, who inspire me with their hunger, drive and burning desire to love what they do. This in turn inspires me to push harder at my own goals.

International comedian, actor, podcaster and former accountant Dilruk Jayasinha is one of those.

You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face throughout this interview – humble, energetic and self-effacing despite his career choice, Dilruk moved to Australia from Sri Lanka in 2004 to pursue higher education with an accounting degree, only to discover “Carlton Draught and white women” and a career in stand-up comedy, that now has him traveling around Australia and the world performing alongside other international comedians of the likes of Wil Anderson, Sammy J & Randy and more.

With upcoming shows around Australia, including Melbourne International Comedy Festival (he sold-out 22 shows last year and had to book more), Adelaide Fringe Festival, recurring roles on “Sammy J and Randy in Rickets Lane” on the ABC and The Little Dum Dum Club podcast, Dilruk Jayasinha has that hunger for success that still sees him saying yes to hundreds of gigs, including those that are potentially lower than his station (my words not his), just to stay fresh, help him to keep honing his craft and to learn every day.

We have vast, ranging chats about the invention of Beroffee (Berocca and coffee), the inspiration and careers of Ricky Gervais and Wil Anderson, riding elephants, nudie runs and smashing tinnies in accounting lectures (very rock & roll), Dilruk’s love & connection with his wonderfully supportive family, facing your fears through stand-up content, tales of Dil’s time growing up in Sri Lanka, a few of my own Sri Lankan experiences in Colombo, Kandy and Negumbo as an international Emirates Airline flight attendant and so much more.

Fascinating podcast with a hilarious comedian, who left me feeling inspired and full of energy for my own dreams after an hour and a half with a like-minded soul.

Love it!
