Interview #30 – Alister Robbie (The Post Project director, producer & craft brewer).

“When you’re hanging from 3 fingers and desperately trying to get your hand up onto the ledge to give you some breathing room because your left arm’s about to pop out, the fact of whether you can pay your rent or your phone bill is overdue tends not to matter so much.”
– Alister Robbie (The Post Project).

Self-confessed adrenaline junkie, Alister Robbie is a director, producer, craft beer brewer and owner of global business – The Post Project Production Company.

Al and I met met back in 2010 when Al was a producer on Ballistyx Snowboard Show on Channel GO! in Australia and I was working as the TV show’s music supervisor, sourcing the music of independent Australian artists and bands across a range of genres from around Australia.

A hard-core adventurist, Alister Robbie’s been an adrenaline junkie from a very young age, with his first bungee jump at age 11, rock-climbing, sky-diving, riding ramp on skate-boards, roller blades, BMX and eventually making his way into the mountain-biking scene.

It was during that time about 20 years that while pushing the limits, Al had a serious mountain-biking accident, crashing while traversing a his way down a mountain, his bike and body strewn over 60 metres and was clinically dead for around 5-6 minutes.

These days he gets his high through snowboarding and chasing the powder on the big mountains around the world and that life-changing experience on the mountain has impacted his outlook on life, cherishing every moment and his desire complete with an unwavering no fear attitude has led to Al’s business, The Post Project, to come on leaps and bounds since it’s inception in 2010.

The first ever foreigner in the world allowed to shoot in Reebok’s factory in China, Al’s past & present clients include Reebok, Little Creatures Brewing Company, German automobile manufacturer Audi, Shell, Sneaker Freaker, craft breweries around Australia and many many more.

We chat about:

  • The entrepreneurial mindset & achieving goals beyond your wildest dreams.
  • Zen & rock-climbing -“Suddenly the worries of the world fall away and don’t matter so much”
  • Surrounding yourself with like-minded people – replacing the “Why” people with the “Why Not” people.
  • Cherry picking skills/qualities of a range of people who inspire you and making them you’re own, rather than emulating “idols”.
  • Richard Branson – cocking up with the IRS and how some of the most successful people not only celebrate their successes, but are highly transparent about their failures.

This is the story of my close friend and a man achieving global success with a mantra that I also call my own…

Bite off more than you can chew then chew like hell.
