I love The Toff in Town.. ❤
This June has seen Ella Hooper and beautiful indie folk project Texture Like Sun performing a dual Tuesday residency at one of Melbourne’s top live venues, The Toff in Town. 3 weeks back, I had friends visiting Melbourne on consecutive Tuesday nights, so I took them down to The Toff to show-off Melbourne’s fantastic live music scene and a few cheeky beers.
Whether it be the club/bar area with dining for a few cocktails or the warm, boutique performance space with candle-lit tables, from the minute you walk in The Toff In Town there’s just a beautiful energy that just makes you feel right at home. Both weeks I headed straight to the bar, ordered myself a delicious pint of local craft beer Thunder Road Brewing Co Autumn Pale Ale and sat back to enjoy the show.
My first time live, I fell in love with Texture Like Sun immediately. Captivated from start to finish… Ella Hooper was showcasing most recent single ‘Häxan’ with boundless energy on stage and it was fantastic to be able to support one of my mates hittin’ the skins for Ella (wicked Melbourne-based drummer Ryan Mano – shameless plug 😃).
Just the perfect evening.. two weeks in a row.. bumping into familiar faces, making new friends, top-line music and a wonderful vibe… The Toff in Town is definitely up there as one of my favourite live entertainment venues in Australia’s music capital. If you’re after live music in Melbourne tonight, you now know where you’re heading.
Thank you Toff. Thank you Melbourne

Exclusive Stream: Caity Fowler’s solo EP ‘Whitelight Blackdog’
A few short months back, Caity Fowler left inspiring Melbourne indie folk band Playwrite determined to launch a solo career in music. After smashing a pozible campaign to raise funds for recording, this VCA graduate has put together a stunning first release with woodwind, strings, electric/slide guitar and grand piano all in the mix. This lovely collection of 6 songs, recorded at Four4ty Studios, is a fire fueled by an on and off battle with depression ever since she was a teenager.
“The secrecy and taboo that surrounds mental illness even in this day and age create shame and embarrassment. I may never learn to be proud of my suffering but I am proud of my resilience.”
– Caity Fowler
‘Whitelight Blackdog’ creates awareness for subject matter that all of us should feel free to talk about.. It’s honest, stripped-back, raw, emotional & beautiful all at once.. And I love it..

The ‘Whitelight Blackdog’ EP launch is this weekend in Melbourne at Bar 303, Northcote deets here
“I’ve finally come to terms with the fact that I’m a white guy who sings soul music” – Sun Rai (Rai Thistlethwayte).
Where’s Rai been of late? LA.. that’s where baby! Yep, that’s right.. under the moniker of Sun Rai, Thirsty Merc frontman Rai Thistlethwayte is now living in California and embarking on the next stage of his career.
Blossoming from the cocoon like the butterfly of re-invention Sun Rai’s first foray into the international market is ‘Pocket Music’. This collaboration with Aaron Sterling (Regina Spektor, John Mayer) sees Rai return to the piano (his first love) and a handful of beautiful, uplifting pop/soul jams which he is currently showcasing around America on a national USA tour.
With the release of launch single ‘San Francisco Street’ I fell in love with Sun Rai’s latest sound and I for one am looking forward to jetting back to California to see him perform live in L.A.
“I’d love for people to be able to take this with them and want to hear it over and over again,” Rai concludes. “And, if it happens to help someone on their journey in life, that would be truly amazing.”
Yes sir.. this EP made my week & I’m excited to share it with all of you..
Kanye West’s album ‘Yeezus’ has leaked online over the weekend & you can stream it right here
Launched at a New York listening party attended by Jay-Z, Beyonce and Timbaland, the 10-track LP features guest appearances from Kid Cudi, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and John Legend, with Def Jam music legend Rick Rubin joining West to finish off the album.
Kanye West’s sixth solo album ‘Yeesuz’ official release date is June 18th
Ahead of his latest album ‘From Here To Now To You’ due out 16 September, Jack Johnson has released this beautiful tune ‘I Got You’ dedicated to his wife & college sweetheart, Kim.
Whether it’s chillin’ by the fire with the perfect glass of red or on the porch with a crisp, cheeky beer after a long day in the surf..
This jus’ makes me happy 😃
Hard to believe Duff McKagan’s been the bass player for Guns N Roses, Velvet Revolver and Jane’s Addiction! And he’s still writing new music & jetting the globe… Love it!
Duff’s Seattle sound, his latest project Walking Papers, features himself, Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin, Missionary Position vocalist Jeff Angell and keys player Benjamin Anderson.
Currently in the UK & Ireland on tour and for Download Festival, McKagan recently caught up with Fake Mustache Studios’ podcast mogul & comedian Jay Mohr on one of my favourite podcasts, Mohr Stories. With a mixture in-depth, deep discussion, hilarious banter and an audience over 250,000 downloads a month, Jay Mohr’s fascinating, frank tête-à-têtes with the stars includes the likes of Josh Homme, Charlie Sheen, Barry Katz, David Lee Roth & more. In this Mohr Stories episode, Duff recounts stories from his days with the GnFnRs, randomly bumping into Axl Rose into a London hotel years later and the beginnings of his new band.
Walking Papers self-titled debut album is due out on August 6th.
