Stone Temple Pilots’ kickASS new sound joined by Linkin Park frontman!

Stone Temple Pilots

WWWWWWOW! Stone Temple Pilots are …BACK!!!!! And my ears are melting with sheer ecstacy!

Following the axing of Scott Weiland, Linkin Park’s frontman Chester Bennington was invited by STP to hit the stage & studio with them and this is the result… A bangin’, higher-energy, old school 80s Jane’s Addiction-style rock sound of a kickASS band that I barely recognise.. and I LIKE it!

Bennington joined the Californian rockers for a surprise set at iconic L.A. radio KROQ’s Weenie Roastaround concert, smashing out some of the band’s biggest hits including “Vasoline”, “Plush”, “Interstate Love Song” and revealed STP’s latest single “Out of Time”.

“I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me,” says Bennington (via Stone Temple Pilots’ website). “When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance.  The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

And the feelings of love are mutual according to band guitarist Dean DeLeo “Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time. We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

On 2nd, 3rd and 4th listens, more and more I felt like I was listening to vocals reminiscent of the ghost of Alice In Chains‘ lead singer, Layne Staley. It’s amazing what changing just one key band member can bring to a band, but with Bennington being super busy with his #1 project, Linkin Park, it remains to be seen whether they will all continue to work together.

I hope they do! This shit’s like ear candy! More please!
